Magnetically bioprinted three dimensional scaffold-free liver model for nanotoxicity studies Dipesh Khanal, Fan Zhang,Yang Song, Herman Hau, Dong Fu, Iqbal Ramzan, Weidong Cai, Wojciech Chrzanowski Faculty of Pharmacy, The University of Sydney, NSW 2006, Australia School of Information Technologies, Faculty of Engineering and InformationTechnologies, The University of Sydney, NSW 2006, Australia Australian Institute of Nanoscale Science and Technology, The University of Sydney, NSW 2006, Australia Introduction Nanoparticles became ‘indispensable’ components of cosmetics, food products, medical imaging systems and therapeutics. Daily consumption of nanoparticles from food, cosmetics and inhalation exceeds 1 mg/kg of body mass for adults and more importantly 2 mg/kg of body mass for kids (few trillions of nanoparticles per day). There is increasing evidence that nanoparticles contribute to the loss of cell function and may be responsible for increase in auto immune disease, asthma and autism incidents. The impact of nanoparticles on overall health and liver which is the primary site of nanoparticle accumulation is still poorly understood. Therefore, there is critical to gain a precise knowledge of the safety of nanoparticles.

Three-dimensional bioprinting using self-assembling scalable scaffold-free “tissue strands” as a new bioink
Recent advances in bioprinting have granted tissue engineers the ability to assemble biomaterials, cells, and signaling molecules into anatomically relevant functional tissues or organ parts. Scaffold-free fabrication has recently attracted a great deal of interest due to the ability to recapitulate tissue biology by using self-assembly, which mimics the embryonic development process. Despite s...
متن کاملA Bioprinted Liver-on-a-Chip for Drug Screening Applications.
The need for a liver-on-a-chip tissue model for drug screening is particularly important in tissue engineering because of the high frequency of drug-induced liver injury. Recently, a liver tissue model conducive to hepatotoxicity testing was developed by bioprinting hepatic spheroids encapsulated in a hydrogel scaffold into a microfluidic device.
متن کاملMagnetically Bioprinted Human Myometrial 3D Cell Rings as A Model for Uterine Contractility
Deregulation in uterine contractility can cause common pathological disorders of the female reproductive system, including preterm labor, infertility, inappropriate implantation, and irregular menstrual cycle. A better understanding of human myometrium contractility is essential to designing and testing interventions for these important clinical problems. Robust studies on the physiology of hum...
متن کامل3D bioprinting of biomimetic aortic vascular constructs with self-supporting cells.
Cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of deaths throughout the world. Vascular diseases are mostly treated with autografts and blood vessel transplantations. However, traditional grafting methods have several problems including lack of suitable harvest sites, additional surgical costs for harvesting procedure, pain, infection, lack of donors, and even no substitutes at all. Recently, ti...
متن کاملBioprinted 3D Primary Liver Tissues Allow Assessment of Organ-Level Response to Clinical Drug Induced Toxicity In Vitro
Modeling clinically relevant tissue responses using cell models poses a significant challenge for drug development, in particular for drug induced liver injury (DILI). This is mainly because existing liver models lack longevity and tissue-level complexity which limits their utility in predictive toxicology. In this study, we established and characterized novel bioprinted human liver tissue mime...
